Long-time clients come to think of us as their out-of-house in-house pr and marketing counsel, and we take that as a great compliment; we love being part of a creative team.

Over the years we noticed that clients were looking to us for writing services that went far beyond the simple press kit – and this is work we have been delighted to take on. Today JBOC leads broad communications efforts for our full-service clients, and also welcomes projects that focus more narrowly on copywriting.

Jessica Olshen founded
JBO Communications in 2005.


Over the years she has had the privilege of working with and learning from a range of clients and colleagues – architects, designers, artists, chefs, curators, makers, editors, and writers – all at the top of their games. Supporting clients and sharing stories of their talent, passion, and success is the best part of the job.

Jessica started her career in book publishing, where she developed her love of writing and editing, and then spent years at a boutique public relations agency based in New York and Los Angeles. Over the years she has dabbled in freelance writing.

Today, Jessica lives in Brooklyn, New York with her family and their dashing rescue cat.

Services

  • We start with careful research and review: Where does the brand stand now? Taking client goals and strengths into consideration, we develop a strategy to launch, develop, or tweak brand identity through the thoughtful integration of words and graphics. This may include identity work like logo development, building out a website development, and branding statements; special events; and speaking engagements.

  • We handle press kits, website copy, social media posts, bylined articles, invitations and annual reports – and are happy to discuss any writing needs a client may have. We develop a distinctive voice for each client and routinely handle all communications on their behalf.

  • Media outreach is an element of almost all our campaigns. We understand how to package a story to appeal to specific editors, writers, and publications (print, digital, and broadcast), and how to position our clients as trusted resources for the media.

  • We advise on platforms, content, and cadence. Working closely with clients’ internal teams we set up systems to ensure that their feeds are fresh, consistent (with the occasional surprise) – and, above all, relevant to the communities they wish to grow.
